How crude avocado oil is made: from Hass fruit to first press

A calm walk through cold-pressing crude Hass avocado oil — the quiet craft behind every drop of premium oil.

Crude avocado oil is the unrefined, first-press oil extracted mechanically from ripe Hass avocados. At Imara, every batch begins on smallholder farms across Kenya's avocado belt — Murang'a, Kandara, Kisii and Meru — where the fruit is hand-picked at the right moment of maturity.

Once at our Thika factory, the avocados are washed, de-stoned and the flesh is gently malaxed at low temperature to coax out the oil without ever applying heat or solvents. This cold-pressing step is what separates premium crude avocado oil from refined or industrial alternatives. Nothing is rushed.

The malaxed paste is then centrifuged to separate the oil from the water and pulp. What emerges is a vivid, naturally coloured oil with a clean fruity nose. This is true cold-pressed Hass avocado oil — the same oil that, after careful filtration and testing, becomes the base for our refined and bottled products.

Crude avocado oil produced this way is prized by food brands, cosmetic formulators and chefs around the world. It carries the full character of the fruit, and because it is mechanically extracted, it retains the natural antioxidants and flavour compounds that gentler processing protects.
